Cinde Atterberry ~ Seahawk Store

We have learned that Cinde Atterberry has passed away recently,

In 1955 they purchased the SeaHawk Store which they owned until 1969. The store is fondly remembered as a high school institution. Hamburgers, foot long hotdog, fresh baked donuts and those wonderful ice cream & candy counters. It was a family business with aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews all working and eating their way through high school. What a time it was to live in Anacortes and what a lifetime of memories which are still shared with many unto this day.

Kindergarten in Anacortes?

Daryl Compton provided this photo from 1953 or so.  Who from our class can you identify?  The guy in the tie has a story to tell.

"I ran across on old class photo that I'm pretty sure was my kindergarten class because I was the only one in it with a necktie because a neighbor put it on me on my way to school. Mom was upset. Now, it's humorous. This was most likely 1953 when I would have been 6.

The old baseball backstop behind is is facing 12 street in the playfield of Whitney School. Boy did I play a lot of ball at whitney growing up with a bunch of us neighbor kids - Danny Miller, Randy Iverson, Tom Swapp, Trent Courtney, Doug Merz, Rod Dorland, Doug Tidrington, many others. This was in the old days when we actually played marbles during recess.

I thought you might want to post this one on the AHS site and see if we can gather some names. The only ones I'm sure of are:
Front row: Jack Cheney 2nd, Larry Carr 4th, myself 6th, Steve Chicoratich 8th, I think.
Back row: Danny Miller 2nd, Paul Evans 4th

Mike Sanford

Our classmate, tall, soft-spoken Michael G. Sanford, 62,  passed away on Friday, January 15, 2010. He was a long time Mt. Vernon resident.

Mike was born on June 6, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of William and Carol  (Edwards) Sanford. When the family moved to Anacortes it became the place where he was raised and attended school.

After graduating from Anacortes High School Mike attended and graduated from Skagit Valley College with an Associates Degree in Psychology. He then attended and graduated from Central Washington University and then from Washington State University with a Masters in Political Science. He worked for many years as a manager for Whitney Fidalgo Seafood and then for Midway Distributing. For the past several years he has been a sales clerk at Home Depot in Burlington.

In his early years Mike had some alcohol issues and for the past 28 years has been faithfully attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, often attending 2 to 3 meetings a day around Skagit County. He kept meticulous records of his meetings attendance and in 2009 alone had attended over 800 meetings where he would just chat with or even council some of the attendees.

Mike is survived by his son, James Sanford (Shelly) of Sedro-Woolley, WA and his daughter, Tracy Fleck of Kalispell, MT. His step-children, Darla Landreth of Gold Bar, WA and Scott Johnson (Melissa) of Coupeville, WA. His nine grandchildren, Tyler, Tiara & Shawn Plummer, Faith & Emily Sanford, Cody & Kelsi Hodgin and Elliott & Stella Johnson and four great-grandchildren. His brother, Jack Sanford; two sisters, Diane Zieman and Joyce Stutts & her husband, John and two nieces, Sandy Zieman and Kathleen Stutts all of Maryland and good friends Jeff and Melody Lee, John and Charlene Guidinger and Harlan Smith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Sanford and his father and step-mother, William & Gertrude Sanford.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 30, 2009 in Sedro-Woolley.

Pam Bushey

And again too soon we have lost another classmate.

From the Columbia Basin Herald:

Pamela Louise Donohue was born on December 5, 1946, in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from Anacortes High School and continued on to Everett Junior College.

After living in Hawaii, San Diego, Duvall and Belleveue, in 1975 Pam gave birth to her beautiful son, Jared Adam Donohue. Pam relocated to Moses Lake in 1977 to manage her parents’ motel with Jared. She started her employment with the Moses Lake Clinic in 1985 and was there until her death.

Pam was an avid reader, collected and love of casinos and shopping. She lived life to the fullest. She touched every life she came in contact with. Pam was always laughing and smiling as if she had just been told the funniest joke in the world.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Helen Bushey, and her cherished son, Jared.

She is survived by her father, Willis (Red) Bushey and his companion, Maurine; her brother, Dennis Bushey, and her treasured sister, Teresa Bushey. She is also survived by her many adoring friends, especially her best friend and sister of her heart, Debbie Leedom.

.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. at New Beginnings Christian Center, at 318 W. Northshore Drive in Moses Lake. A luncheon will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Pam’s name be made to the Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle, WA.

“And sometimes when I’m lonely, I remember she can see. There’s holes in the floor of Heaven and she’s watching over you and me.”
